The Scenery in Ishikawa

寺内さんのご自宅兼工房のある石川県かほく市は、石川県のほぼ中央に位置しており、能登半島の玄関口となっている。県の中心部である金沢市からは車でおよそ30分。畑や田んぼを中心に穏やかな田舎風景が広がっている。現地に到着したのは、ちょうど陽が沈み始めたころ。紫色とピンク色が綺麗に重なったグラデーションの空が、辺り一面の田園に反射していた。

Genki’s home-studio is in Kahoku City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which is located roughly in the center of the prefecture and is the gateway to Noto Peninsula. It is about 30 minutes by car from Kanazawa City. There, you will find an expanse of calm, rural scenery made up of mostly fields and rice paddies.

We arrived just as the sun began to set. The sky, a lovely gradation of violet and pink hues, was reflected in the rice fields on the side of the river.

翌日、寺内さんとともに海へ向かった。石川県は日本海に面しており、海岸線の総延長が600㎞近くもあるそうだ。この日訪れたのは輪島市に位置する琴ケ浜。砂の上を歩くと「キュッキュッ」と女性が泣くような音がすることから「泣き砂の浜」とも呼ばれている。しかし、そんな少し悲しそうな由来の反面、この日は雲ひとつない快晴で、青く透き通った海、そして白い砂浜の美しさが際立って見えた。美しく、そして壮大な景色に出会い、さまざまな石川の色を目にすることができた旅だった。

We headed to-wards the ocean with Genki. Ishikawa Prefecture faces the Sea of Japan, and the coastline stretches almost 600km.

On this day, we visited Kotogahama Beach, located in Wajima City. It is also known as “Nakisunanohama” (“Crying Sand Beach”). It got its name because the sound produced by walking on the sand is said to sound like the crying of a woman. Despite the sad origin of its name, the weather that day was clear, without a cloud in the sky, displaying the beauty of the white sand beach. In our journey, we were able to encounter the beautiful, magnificent scenery of Ishikawa, and its various colors.
