Allbirds launches the Terralux collection, featuring a new non-leather leather for shoes that avoid animal-derived and petroleum-based materials. We aimed to preserve the appeal of traditional leather in appearance, texture, and the character it develops with wear, while making consideration for the environment and living creatures the obvious choice. INNOVERA™, the world's first material of its kind used in footwear, is primarily composed of renewable resources. It combines plant-based proteins, biopolymers, and recycled materials. By uniformly blending components derived from soybeans and corn at the molecular level with fibers extracted from discarded tires, it achieves both a supple feel and durability. This resulting material can be meticulously finished using the same processes as traditional leather, ultimately achieving a structure similar to animal hide. However, Terralux's significance lies not merely in using an alternative leather. It is about circulating finite resources and linking sustainability to the future of craftsmanship. This collection conveys the message that we want that future to be more comfortable and pleasant.
